FUNdraising Friday$ - Pride in Your Ride!

This week’s Fundraiser comes from Dyersville, IA!
In May of this year Relay For Life team ‘Plaza and Nickol’ will hold their 3rd annual ‘Pride in Your Ride’ truck and tractor show! The first year the event raised $20,000 and last year it increased to $49,000! Team captains Kathy Polfer and Becky Nickol along with the rest of their team, which includes three cancer survivors, can’t wait to see what the event will raise this year!
The truck and tractor show has become so successful that it’s now too large for just one team to manage and team Plaza and Nickol have opened it up for others to help! The event consists of a two-day semi-truck and farm tractor show. On Friday night (the first night of the weekend event) the show kicks off with a “Survivor Convoy’ with cancer survivors each riding in a semi-truck for a lap in front of the grand stand. Next is a semi-pull and the night concludes with live music.
Saturday begins with a semi rodeo (skills course), followed by a live auction (which this year will include an Allis Chalmers B tractor painted pink), semi drag racing and a farm tractor rodeo! The event ends with survivors presenting the winners with their plaques for all events.
The team charges $10 for entry and over the course of the two day event, over 100 semis and farm tractors are on display.   Team captain Kathy says; “The event is possible with the help of many local truck and tractor enthusiasts and all around amazing people! We were invited to participate in the Midwest Pride in Your Ride because we were doing a small lunch stand at a toy show that raised about $300, and some of the people who were involved in that event started the truck show and wanted us involved.  $300 has turned into $49,000 in 3 years.”

Team Plaza and Nickol also have 5 other team fundraisers they host throughout the year!  Wow! That’s what we call Relay Big!  Congratulations team Plaza and Nickol! Good luck in 2013!
Did you know? The Midwest Division served 9,435 unique constituents with patient related information and programs between September and December of last year.

 Happy Relaying!
